Phil Bowie
CEO, Velocity Risk Underwriters, LLC


Phil Bowie joined Nephila as a Partner in April 2014 to direct the firm’s primary insurance origination activities. Phil joined Nephila from Willis Re where he was Executive Vice President and Managing Director, with responsibilities as Head of Regional Business in North America. In this role, he was responsible for growing and managing regional company opportunities across all territories, specializing in complex hurricane and tornado / hail reinsurance products and transactions. Phil held several posts at Willis Re, including Manager of Minneapolis Property and Casualty operations, Production Director for Midwest operations and Regional Manager of the Midwest (including Florida).

Phil was appointed Managing Director in 2005 and Executive Vice President in 2004. He is credited with building Willis Re's regional business into a dominant operation in the worldwide reinsurance market. During his career, Phil has had extensive experience in new company formations, portfolio transfers, residual markets, fronting and MGA business, portfolio optimization, business strategy and planning, development of analytics in property, outsource structuring, and advisory services to insurance companies predominantly in the property arena.

Prior to joining Willis Re in 1999, Phil was a Vice President and Director of Florida property initiatives at E.W. Blanch, handling complex property transactions, company formations, portfolio transfers and many new business ventures.  Phil holds a B.A. in Business Administration with a concentration in Finance, from the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, MN. 


Joseph A. Castelluccio

Joe Castelluccio helps clients balance risks and opportunities with a combination of legal acumen and business experience. As a former investment banker and finance professional, Joe’s practice focuses on complex, cross border transactions in a broad range of sectors, including insurance and financial services.  Joe is a key member of the firm’s Insurtech initiative that is focused on advising our insurance clients on this rapidly evolving sector of the industry. The Insurtech team advises clients on a broad spectrum of strategic, regulatory and transactional matters at the intersection of traditional insurance and innovation.



Simon Cloney
CEO, Steadfast Re


Simon Cloney has 30 years of experience in the insurance and reinsurance industry. Since 2002, he has worked at the convergence of capital markets and reinsurance.
Simon joined Beach & Associates, London in 2005 and post Hurricane Katrina he led a team that put in place some of the first collateralised quota shares. Returning to Sydney in 2007, Simon was responsible for the creation of fully collateralised whole account stop loss protection that delivered earnings protection to a global client.
Simon was appointed Managing Director of Beach & Associates Australia in 2010, and in 2014 initiated a management buyout, followed by a joint venture with Steadfast leading to the formation of Steadfast Re.



Peter DiFiore
Managing Director, Cartesian Re

Prior to joining Cartesian Re, Peter worked as an analyst and consultant in the insurance linked securities group of RMS, the leading provider of catastrophe risk products and services. At RMS, Peter managed the analytics and marketing of multiple catastrophe bond transactions, advised clients on risk management in the natural catastrophe and life & health markets, and provided analytical support for development of the RMS Miu portfolio management platform. Peter is a Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst (CAIA) Charterholder. Peter holds an MA and a PhD from the Department of Geosciences at Princeton University, and a BS in Chemistry from North Carolina State University.



Will Dove
Chairman & Chief Executive Officer, Extraordinary Re Holdings, Inc


Mr. Dove has 29 years of experience in the property/casualty insurance and reinsurance industry as an actuary, underwriter and senior executive. He has held positions with leading companies including Centre Re and ACE Limited.

Mr. Dove served as President of ACE Financial Solutions during 2004-2007 and led ACE’s structured insurance division to exceed its annual operating income budgets by over 30% each year. During 2006 Mr. Dove designed and led the liquidation of a portfolio of structured credit risk contracts which locked in embedded profits of over $100 million in advance of the financial crisis in 2007-2008. He served as a member of the deal team for ACE’s first cat bond issue in 2007. From 2007-2011 Mr. Dove served as Chief Operating Officer for Brandywine Holdings (ACE’s runoff insurance operation) where he identified and implemented operational and capital structure efficiencies resulting in a $400 million increase in claims-paying capacity for the lead runoff insurance company and enhancing the liquidity profile for ACE’s insurance company affiliates.

Mr. Dove is a Fellow of the Casualty Actuarial Society, an Associate of the Society of Actuaries, a Member of the American Academy of Actuaries and a Chartered Enterprise Risk Analyst. Mr. Dove graduated from Haverford College in Haverford, PA with a BA in Mathematics.


Barry Gilway
President/CEO, Citizens

Barry Gilway is President/CEO of Citizens Property Insurance Corporation.


President/CEO Gilway oversees all operations and serves as liaison to Citizens’ Board of Governors. President Gilway is an accomplished insurance executive with 46 plus years background in insurance including: CEO of Zurich Canada, Executive VP of Zurich North America, CEO of Maryland Casualty Companies and Executive VP of Crum and Forster along with additional senior management positions.

Following two years of military service, Barry began his insurance career in regional management with the Insurance Company of North America (INA), Crum and Forster, and W.R. Berkley Corporation. In 1990, Gilway became President of the $900 million Maryland Casualty Commercial Lines Company. He was subsequently promoted to CEO of the entire Maryland Casualty Group. In 1999, Gilway was appointed CEO of Zurich Canada, consisting of personal lines, commercial lines, specialty, life and health companies. He returned to the United States as Executive Vice President for Zurich's $17 billion commercial operation, managing and leading 5,000 employees responsible for the Zurich infrastructure in the U.S. while also acting as M&A liaison. Gilway retired from Zurich in 2006 and became a consultant for Mystic Capital Advisors. He completed several significant transactions before joining one of Mystic Capital’s clients, Economical Insurance Group of Canada. Prior to President Gilway’s role at Citizens Property Insurance Corporation, he led Mattei Insurance Services as Chief Executive Officer, reporting to the Economical Board of Directors.

President Gilway has served at Citizens Property Insurance Corporation since June 2012.

Michael Kontaratos
Director, Vario Partners

Michael is a Director at Vario Partners - an investment manager focused on transferring whole account insurance risk into the capital markets and delivering solutions to clients seeking to optimise the way they capitalise insurance risk.

Michael has over a decade of experience in fixed income markets with deep expertise in securitisation and CDO structuring.

Prior to joining Vario, Michael worked at J.P. Morgan where he was responsible for the origination, data analysis, financial modelling and structuring of ABS transactions for banks and financial institutions across numerous jurisdictions. While at J.P. Morgan, he was also involved in the structuring of a hedge fund investing in actively managed and diversified portfolios of insurance risks.

Michael holds a degree in Engineering, Economics and Management from the university of Oxford.



Brad Martz
CFO, UPC Insurance Holdings

Brad Martz has served as UPC’s Chief Financial Officer since October 1, 2012. Prior to joining the company, Mr. Martz served as Chief Financial Officer and Board Member of Bankers Financial Corporation, a Florida-based diversified holding company system with operations in the property and casualty insurance, life/annuity insurance, warranty, insurance agency, insurance business process outsourcing, and real estate markets. Mr. Martz obtained a B.S. in finance from the University of Colorado at Boulder and a M.B.A. from Northeastern University. Mr. Martz is a Certified Public Accountant actively licensed in Florida and also holds the Global Certified Management Accountant designation from the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.



Nick Lamparelli

Nick Lamparelli is a 20+ year veteran in insurance with roles in brokerage, underwriting and analytics. He is currently the Chief Underwriting Officer of reThought Insurance, an MGA focused on the evaluation, underwriting and placement of flood exposed properties. He is also a partner at InsNerds, a site dedicated to bringing more millennial talent into insurance. He is the co-host of Profiles in Risk, a podcast in which he discusses topics in insurance and interviews insurance professionals to highlight the diversity of talent and opportunity available in insurance. Nick lives in New Hampshire with his wife and two children.

Robert Quinn

Robert is the Vice President and Business Development Officer representing the Wilmington Trust Insurance/Reinsurance/ILS Trust product in New York.

Robert joined the Wilmington team in 2014. Over the past 15 years Robert has worked extensively defining acceptable insurance, reinsurance, and ILS collateral products. His international experience includes Kuala Lumpur, Switzerland, Luxembourg, Germany, France, United Kingdom, Ireland, Bermuda, the Cayman Islands, Barbados, Hong Kong, Australia, New Zealand, and others.

Tony Rettino

Tony Rettino is a Founding Principal and Portfolio Manager at Elementum Advisors, LLC and also serves as Director and CEO of Elementum (Bermuda) Ltd. Tony has managed a variety of reinsurance and risk-linked investment strategies since 1997. Prior to Elementum, he co-managed the reinsurance and risk-linked investments team at Stark Investments from September 2005 through November 2009. Tony earned a BBA in Accountancy with high honors from the University of Notre Dame, an MBA in Finance and Statistics with honors from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business, and is a Certified Public Accountant (inactive status).



Paul Schultz

CEO, Aon Securities

Paul Schultz serves as CEO of Aon Securities and leads Aon Benfield’s investment banking team, responsible for providing investment banking products and services to Aon’s clients on a global basis. Paul specializes in providing clients with strategic advice and access to capital markets.

Aon Securities has developed a market leading practice advising clients on M&A, starting new companies and transferring insurance risk to the capital markets. Paul began his career in banking in 1986 and spent 14 years at JP Morgan (its predecessor banks), specializing in the Insurance Practice from 1989. Since joining Aon in 2000, Paul has advised Aon plc on issuing the first ever securitization of private equity limited partnerships and advised clients on M&A, starting new companies, issuing senior and subordinated debt, issuing equity and raising alternative capital via the issuance of catastrophe bonds, sidecars and other collateralized structures and derivatives thereof.

Paul earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science and a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from Northwestern University. Paul also earned a Master of Business Administration degree from Kellogg School of Management. Additionally, Paul is a Chartered Financial Analyst.


Todor Todorov

Todor Todorov is an Investment Consultant at Towers Watson and is a member of the manager research team. He joined the firm (at the time Watson Wyatt) in September 2008 and was initially based in its London office before transferring to New York in July 2011. Mr. Todorov leads the firm’s research effort on insurance linked securities strategies and is also involved in covering other alternative investment strategies.

Todor has BSc degree in International Business Administration and MSc degree in Business Administration - Finance and Investments from RSM Erasmus University. He is a CFA charterholder.


Tony Ursano

Tony Ursano joined TigerRisk Partners as President in April 2015 from Willis, where he was the founder and CEO of Willis Capital Markets & Advisory for six years and a member of the Willis Group Executive Committee. Prior to joining Willis, Tony was Vice Chairman of the Financial Institutions Group at Banc of America Securities. Between 1999 and 2008, he was Global Head of the Financial Institutions Group at Banc of America Securities, managing a team of more than 150 bankers. Prior to that, he was a senior director at Merrill Lynch for five years. Tony started his career at Donaldson, Lufkin, and Jenrette and subsequently worked for SG Warburg in New York and London. He has over 28 years of experience as an investment banker focused on the insurance industry and is a frequent speaker on the state of the insurance and reinsurance industries.

Lorenzo, a Director of Aon Benfield Securities for five years, led the sourcing, structuring, marketing and distribution of various projects and transactions on securitisation of insurance assets such as catastrophe bonds, catastrophe swaps, sidecars and private placements.
